Care[+] [-]

Emeralds are beautiful but delicate and soft stones that require extra attention to ensure their longevity. Inclusions are very common in Emeralds and while they can remain stable for a long time they can form hairline cracks or chips over time if knocked around on a daily basis. We do not typically recommend them for engagement rings. We recommend taking your ring off when exercising or doing anything rough with your hands.

Birthstone Guide

January — Garnet[+] [-]

Meaning: protection, grounding, safe return

Garnet is one of the oldest gemstones in continuous human use, and highly varied in color range. Egyptian garnet jewelry predates the pyramids by a millennium, buried with the dead as a passage into the afterlife. The name came later, from Medieval Latin granatum, for how its raw crystals cluster like pomegranate arils.

February — Amethyst[+] [-]

Meaning: clarity, calm, inner balance.

The violet in amethyst is not added but awakened: trace iron transformed by the earth's own radiation, expressed in a palette that runs from faint lilac to flushed grape to violet that borders on black.

March — Aquamarine[+] [-]

Meaning: clarity, courage, clear communication.

Aquamarine is named for what it resembles: not dark ocean depth, but crystalline shallows where sunlight cuts through. Ranging from pale sky to green-turquoise, aquamarine is a variety of beryl, the mineral from which the first spectacle lenses were cut in medieval Europe.

April — Diamond[+] [-]

Meaning: endurance, strength, lasting love.

Most diamonds are between one and three billion years old; older than life on Earth. They form 100 miles beneath the surface, under pressure 50,000 times that of sea level. A diamond's brilliance is structural: light slows when it enters, bends sharply, and reflects internally.

May — Emerald[+] [-]

Meaning: rebirth, wisdom, emotional depth.

The Egyptians mined emeralds in the mountains above the Red Sea as early as 1500 BCE, pulling from the earth a stone the color of jungle canopy, of moss in shade. Emerald is beryl colored by the element chromium.

June — Moonstone[+] [-]

Meaning: purity, intuition, emotional clarity.

The name came first: a stone described by the Romans as an expression of solidified moonlight. The scientific name for moonstone’s milky, bluish sheen is adularescence, an optical effect caused by the delicate interweaving of minerals orthoclase and albite, layered so finely that light scatters rather than passes through.

July — Ruby[+] [-]

Meaning: passion, vitality, life force.

Ruby and sapphire are the same mineral: corundum. Traces of chromium cause the former's red, a color that deepens in intensity at higher concentrations. When the shade is found in its most vivid, fluorescent, and lit-from-within form, ruby red is referred to as “pigeon blood,” a name coming from the Burmese term ko-twe.

August — Peridot[+] [-]

Meaning: renewal, protection, positive energy.

Peridot forms deep in the Earth's mantle, carried to the surface only by volcanoes. Some arrived from farther still: olivine crystals in meteorites 4.5 billion years old, older than the planet itself. One of the few gems that exists in a single hue, its color is always green.

September — Sapphire[+] [-]

Meaning: wisdom, truth, spiritual clarity.

One of our most beloved stones, sapphire is known for its remarkable range of color. As an allochromatic gem, it takes its hue from the specific minerals in the landscape where it forms: iron, titanium, chromium. A sapphire's color is, in a literal sense, a record of its home.

October — Opal[+] [-]

Meaning: hope, confidence, loyalty

Opal forms when silica-rich water seeps into underground rock and slowly evaporates, leaving iridescent deposits behind. Its amorphous structure means it reflects light in unpredictable flashes of color, called "play of color."

November — Citrine[+] [-]

Meaning: abundance, optimism, warmth.

In shades of pale straw, warm honey, and amber, citrine is a specific accident of geology: the stone forms when hot water meets fractured rock deep underground, depositing quartz in volcanic cavities over millions of years.

December — Tanzanite[+] [-]

Meaning: transformation, insight, new beginnings.

Tanzanite is a rare, trichroic blue-violet gemstone sourced exclusively from the small area of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, making it highly coveted and much rarer than diamonds.

The Perfect Length

Necklace length is personal, shaped by how you like your jewelry to sit and layer. Some prefer a closer fit, others a longer drape. Each of our necklaces can be worn at two lengths, offering flexibility in how you style it.

Length Guide

Length (inches) Length (mm)
16–18 in 40–46 cm
18–20 in 46–51 cm

These adjustable lengths are designed to be worn in multiple ways, sitting higher on the neck or slightly lower on the collarbone depending on your preference. If you are between lengths or layering multiple pieces, we recommend considering how they will sit together.

Will my stone match the photo on the website exactly?[+] [-]

At WWAKE, we work exclusively with natural, ethically sourced stones, and each one is unique in its cut and color. We are proud of the quality and individuality of our stones and select each one with great care. Because these are natural materials, we cannot guarantee exact replicas of the colors shown in photographs. Subtle variations are part of what makes each piece unique.

How should I care for my jewelry?[+] [-]

Our jewelry is carefully crafted with fine settings and sculptural details, particularly in pieces featuring prong settings or natural stones. Thoughtful everyday care will help preserve their beauty over time.

For daily wear we recommend:
-Removing rings during hands-on activities or heavy work
-Taking jewelry off before showering, sleeping, or exercising
-Avoiding contact with lotions, perfumes, and cleaning products
-Being mindful when putting on sweaters or reaching into pockets, as settings and shapes may catch on fabric.

A helpful tip when dressing is to turn rings toward the inside of your hand or gently make a fist when pulling on sweaters. We also recommend that open rings not be used as adjustable rings. When properly sized, they will keep their shape and last much longer.

If you ever notice a stone shifting or the ring losing its shape, please contact customerservice@wwake.com or submit a request through our Repair Portal.

3
How should I care for gold jewelry?[+] [-]

Gold is at the heart of WWAKE’s practice. We work primarily with recycled gold certified to SCS standards, helping ensure responsible supply chains while reducing the environmental impact associated with new mining. Whenever possible, we also repurpose pre-consumer gold scraps from our Brooklyn studio, extending the life cycle of these precious metals through new designs.

With regular wear, gold may develop subtle changes in appearance depending on body chemistry and daily contact with oils or skincare products. This is most commonly noticed on the inside of rings or on earring posts, and is a natural part of how gold interacts with the skin. In most cases, the shine can easily be restored using a soft polishing cloth. For routine care, we recommend removing gold jewelry before applying lotions, perfumes, or cleaning products, and storing pieces separately when not being worn.

If your piece needs deeper cleaning or professional polishing, please contact customerservice@wwake.com or submit a request through our Repair Portal.
